Microsoft has been on a major push to have Windows 10 the dominating operating system. Windows 10 appears to be a win-win for everyone, including Microsoft who is betting that security-related issues are at an all-time low with Windows 10 compared to all other consumer Windows operating system.

As it turns out, Windows 10 is now the second most used computer operating system now with only seven months of life. Currently, Windows 7 is the only operating system beating out Windows 10 in usage numbers.

Microsoft has done a few things to ramp up adoption rates of Windows 10 apart from the normal marketing methods. By ending support, updates and patches for Windows 8, Microsoft has forced many users to make the move to Windows 10. Additionally, Microsoft has designed Windows 10 to be a free update and relatively easy migration for Windows 7 and 8.1 users, leaving them with very few complaints for making the move now rather than later.

The market share, holding at 13.65% for Windows 10 as of today from StatCounter’s latest statistics, is second in place after Windows 7′s 74.66% market share as demonstrated in the chart below.

There is no doubt that moving to Windows 10 will be hesitated by many current Windows users, it still behooves Microsoft to force the issue considering how it will be less work for Microsoft to roll out updates, patches and those infamous and endless security updates to older versions of Windows.
